2020 new rubbish and recycling service

Wheeled bins and more recycling options will be hitting Hamilton streets from July 2020 after Council approved the new kerbside collection service for the city on 16 August 2018.

See what’s included below:

  • 120 litre rubbish wheeled bin, collected fortnightly
  • 240 litre recycling wheeled bin (plastics 1-7, tins, cans, paper and card), collected fortnightly
  • 45 litre crate for glass, collected fortnightly
  • 20-30 litre food bin, collected weekly.

This page will be kept updated over the next two years before the change in service on 1 July 2020.

October to November 2016 Community consultation on changing the kerbside rubbish and recycling service.

The Council received 2790 responses to the consultation.

February 2017 Hearings for the public on the change to the kerbside service.
March 2017 Council approval to tender for a change in kerbside service.
April to October 2017 Tendering of new service.
December 2017 The Council approved for $81.7 million for the draft 2018-2028 10 Year Plan.
29 March to 30 April 2018 Consultation on the 10 Year Plan.
May 2018 Hearings on the 10 Year Plan.
August 2018 Business case approved which includes the level of service for the city
