A licensing programme to ensure waste companies meet set standards was implemented by Hamilton City Council in 2016. Provision for licensing has been part of the city’s Solid Waste Bylaw since 2012.
Waste management and minimisation is important for the Council and the licensing programme provides a level playing field for waste businesses in the City.
Data collection and monitoring through the licensing process will help Council plan for waste management and minimisation across the City and meet its obligations under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008.
The licensing programme brings the Council into line with other councils, including Auckland, Taupo, Christchurch and Dunedin.
